Inaugural Premier12 MVP Kim Hyun-soo named Korea’s Captain

Outfielder Kim Hyun-soo has been named the Captain of the Korean National Team that will play the WBSC Premier12. Manager Kim Kyung-moon made the announcement today, Wednesday 16 October, before team practice at KT Wiz Park in Suwon, 45 kilometres south of Seoul. He said that Kim Hyun-soo, 31, was “the perfect man”, given his international experience.

Kim Hyun-soo was one of the youngest players on the roster that Kim Kyung-moon led to a gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Kim made the All-World Team at the 2009 World Baseball Classic. He has helped Korea to three consecutive Asian Games gold medals starting in 2010. He was the MVP of the inaugural Premier12 in 2015.

Kim was also the South Korean captain at the 2018 Asian Games.

Kim Hyun-soo is a veteran of 12 seasons in the Korea Baseball Organisation (KBO). He won 4 Gold Gloves and he was the 2008 Batting Champion. He also played Major League Baseball in the USA. He split his 2016 and 2017 seasons with the Baltimore Orioles and the Philadelphia Phillies.
