Fans present today at Zett A Ballpark witnessed three very strong pitching performances by Puerto Ricans Xena Dung and Jamee Juarez, and Mexican Dallas Escobedo. The last two pitched a no hitter against Phillipines, who finished the day hitless after 14 innings.

Puerto Rico 9-0 South Africa

Puerto Rico built a 9-0 victory over South Africa with two big innings, and earned its second win of the WBSC Softball World Championship. A strong 1-hit performance by Xeana Dung lead the caribbean team from the circle, including 8 strikeouts.

In the bottom of the second frame Puerto Rico rallied for five runs, including RBI doubles by Shemiah Sanchez and Yahelis Muñoz, and a single by Karla Claudio to plate Elizia D’Orazio.

One inning later Carsyn Gordon led off her team’s offensive with a no-doubter line-drive shot to left field for the sixth run of the Caribbean team. Puerto Rico opened the gap with three more runs, on a sac fly by Ocasio and a 2-RBI single off the bat of Galis Lozada.

For South Africa the lost went to Madelein Bester in 1.2 innings of work.

Mexico 2-0 Philippines

Dallas Escobedo threw a no-hitter as Mexico beat Philippines, 2-0, in the second game of the tournament for both teams. The right hander pitcher kept her opponents guessing all game mixing all her pitches in a brillant performance from the circle.

The only chance of score Philippines had in the game was in the first inning. Chelsea Suitos walked and Hailey Decker reached first on an error. But then, Escobedo fanned Arianne Vallestero for the second out and Suitos was retired at home, after Decker tried to steal second.

Mexico’s first run was produced by a single off the bat of Sashel Palacios, to plate Brittany Cervantes from second, who had reached on a walk.

In the top of the third Brigette Del Ponte swung to the second pitch of the inning for a line-drive homer over center field fence to add one mor ru to the difference.

Escobedo finished the game with 11 strikeouts, with only 2 walks.

Mexico moves now to a 1-1 record in Group A and tomorrow will face South Africa.

Puerto Rico 3-0 Philippines

Puerto Rico earned its second win of the day, and third of the tournament, with a pitching gem by Giselle Juarez. The left-hander threw a no hittter and led her team to a 3-0 victory over Philippines, to move to 3-0 in the standings.

With one out in the bottom of the second inning Quiana Diaz hit a single up the middle, and then scored on a double to right field by left fielder Aleshia Ocasio.

Two innings later Diaz and Ocasio earned back to back walks to start the inning, and advanced on a double steal. Then Diaz scored on a sac fly by Galis Lozada and Ocassio crossed home plate with a defensive error by short stop Garnet Blando.

Juarez faced 22 hitters in seven innings, fanned 4 opponents and surrended 1 walk for a no-no, the second Philippines received this afternoon.

With this score Puerto Rico leads the Group A with 3 wins and no losses, and tomorrow they will play Chinese Taipei at 12:30.

Philippines falls to 1-2 and tomorrow the will play against Netherlands, at 15:30 local time.
